Welcome to the brand new Modish website and blog and thanks so much for stopping by! I will admit, I’m launching this blog about 3 years late, but better late than never, right?! There’s no much to cover and so many pretty events to reveal, but for now, I’ll tell you a little more about me.
I launched my first event planning company in 2009, called MK Events and it wasn’t easy. Launching any business during the recession wasn’t easy, but that’s a whole other story! I could write a book about how much I’ve learned and grown since then! My passion for event planning has always been there but I never knew how much hard work and dedication it really took. I’ve read that the average career span for a wedding planner is 6 months, and I can tell you why…it’s not like what you see on TV. We don’t sit around drinking champagne and eating cupcakes (well, 95% of the time at least)!
Event and wedding planning is a labor of love. It’s a lot of hard work, long days and nights, working on weekends, getting calls at all hours…oh, and it’s really fattening..ha! (*Tip to aspiring planners…you really have to be careful how many catering, dessert tastings and venue open-houses you attend!) With all this being said, I wouldn’t trade it for anything! There’s not a career opportunity in the world that would take me away from owning my own event planning business. I think my fellow entrepreneurs out there would agree with me, having a business you’re truly passionate about doesn’t feel like “just work” and I never want it to.
I keep things from getting monotonous by changing it up with each client. Yes, we could just go down the list, following a template for plugging in vendors and entertainment and I doubt clients would think anything of it. BUT we don’t and that’s what keeps the spark alive for me and allows us to attract our ideal client. We love the forward thinkers, creatives, rule breakers and risk takers. The clients we work best with are the ones who want something outside the box, a unique event that will “wow” their guests.
Spending hours creating a new concept for each event requires more time, energy and creativity, but it’s soooo worth it when it’s all said and done! Seeing our client’s face beam with joy when they walk into their event keeps me going, making all the hard work and long hours pay off.
I thought I’d include a little throw back photo from the first wedding I ever planned! This is the sweetest couple and I loved being a part of their special day. It was scary planning my first wedding ever, but everything turned out perfect and they were very happy.
